From the beginning, you promised to love your companion through all the sunrises and sunsets. We’re here to help keep that promise — and bring them home forever.

What families are saying

I had 3 senior fur babies, one passing at 12 in 2021, one at 17 in 2022, and then my 17 year old a few weeks ago. Each time it felt like my world collapsed around me having to say goodbye. When I called to bring them in, they were always so accommodating, comforting, patient, and beyond wonderful. I was given as much time as I needed in a private room to say goodbye, and they went above and beyond to show compassion for how truly heart wrenching this was. After final decisions are made, it only took a few days and they were ready to bring home. Shannon even let me come a bit late to pick up my fur baby, and still took the time to show everything ensuring it was just perfect. I can't thank them enough for all they have done- truly such an exceptional team.

The Journey Home

Five steps, walked together.

From the first conversation to bringing your companion home, here’s how we’ll be with your family at every stage. There’s no rush, and you don’t have to figure it out alone.

  1. Connect

From the beginning, you made a promise to them. When the time comes, you shouldn’t have to figure out what happens next alone — and you don’t have to. Whether you’re a family in the middle of one of the hardest moments you’ll face, or a veterinary partner reaching out on their behalf, we answer. We listen. We give you a clear path forward.

  2. The Care Plan

Your voice in the process. Every detail of how your companion will be honored — the type of care, the memorials that matter, the details that are uniquely theirs. Some families complete it right away. Others need a little time, and that’s okay. Your companion is safe with us while you find your way to it.

  3. Entrusted

The moment you place them in our care. Whether your companion comes to us through a veterinary partner or directly from your home, we receive them with the same reverence we’d want for our own. From this moment forward, they are not a case number or a task. They are a family member — and we treat them accordingly.

  4. In Our Care

Your companion is with us — tended to, tracked, and treated with dignity at every stage. Our team cares for them the way we’d want our own companions cared for. Every step reflects the promise you made to them, and the one we’re making to you.

    • Honored
  5. Coming Home

We’re here to help keep that promise — to honor them, and bring them home forever. Your companion’s remains and memorials are prepared with care and returned to you, whether by delivery, at your veterinary clinic, or waiting for you at one of our care centers.

How we care for them

Ways to honor your companion.

Every family is different. We’ll walk through your Care Plan together — there’s no wrong choice, and there’s no rush.

Individual Cremation

Your companion is cremated individually, and their remains are returned to your family in the urn or memorial of your choosing. The most personal option, with full traceability through every step.

Memorials Only

A communal cremation paired with a paw print impression keepsake returned to your family. For families who want a physical memory to hold, without the return of cremated remains.

Communal Cremation

Your companion is cremated together with other companions. Remains are not returned — instead, they are scattered respectfully at our care facility. A gentle, dignified option when a return isn't part of your plan.

Gentle by nature

Water cremation — the most natural process available.

Water cremation uses gentle chemistry instead of flame. It’s the same natural process that occurs when a body returns to the earth, simply accelerated — and it returns approximately 30 to 40 percent more of your companion to you than flame-based cremation.

  • No flame, no smoke, no greenhouse-gas emissions
  • More cremated remains returned to your family
  • A quieter, gentler process — closer to nature

Something to hold onto

Women-owned · North Carolina

The heart and mind of Companah.

Companah is a women-owned, family business built right here in North Carolina. We started Companah because we’ve loved our own companions through every chapter — and we know how much it matters to have someone you trust beside you when the last chapter comes.

We bring water cremation to families and veterinary partners across the state — a gentler, more natural process — and we treat every companion in our care the way we’d want our own to be treated. Always.

They held space for our family the day Charlie passed — and again the day he came home. We will always be grateful.

Questions, answered gently

Frequently Asked Questions

We understand that losing a companion is difficult. These answers are here to guide you through the process with clarity and care.

  • Water cremation, also called alkaline hydrolysis, uses gentle water-based chemistry to return a body to its natural elements — the same process that occurs when a body returns to the earth, simply accelerated. Flame cremation uses high heat instead. Water cremation produces no smoke or greenhouse-gas emissions and returns approximately 30 to 40 percent more cremated remains than flame cremation.
